I've attached the November 17 Marquette FLL Regional public schedule for you to share with your teams, families, and supporters.
I also need to ask for your help. We are VERY short on general volunteers for both of our events. We ask that each team provide at least one half-day volunteer to help us create a special day for all of our teams. As a thank you for their time and talents, volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt and a ticket for lunch at the concession stand. Volunteers will be able to specify team affiliation when they sign up, so we will be able to ensure that they will not miss their teams' judging sessions or robot matches. Please ask your volunteer to sign up before Thursday, November 7. The link to sign up is here:
We are also short two Core Values judges for the November 17 event. Please forward the contact information for anyone you know who would be interested in being an integral part of the tournament. We will provide self study materials (and a brief training on tournament day) for new judges. Judges will need to commit to a full day (7:30 am until 5 pm) at the event.
Finally, we are looking for a referee or two for our November 16 tournament. If you are looking for a totally different tournament experience, please consider serving as a referee. Training will be provided at 8 am on tournament day. Please contact me if you know of someone who can help.
Thank you!
We are currently working on the judging/match schedule for the November 17 event and we need to know if your team has special requirements that we should consider when creating the schedule. For the most part, the placement of teams into judging slots is a random process, so - to be to fair to everyone - we do not want to manipulate the schedule generated by our scheduling system unless absolutely necessary. For that reason, we will try to accommodate special requests where:
A team member/family member cannot navigate stairs (we have judging rooms on both the first and second floor of the school - while there is elevator access, it is very slow)
A single coach is coaching multiple teams at the event and would like (1) the teams to be judged at the same time in different rooms or (2) the teams to be judged at times far enough apart that the coach can attend both sessions with the teams
A team is traveling a long distance to the event (more than an hour) and would like a later judging slot
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate special scheduling requests that are made simply because multiple teams are sponsored by the same school or organization. FIRST LEGO League in the Milwaukee area has grown so much that many groups sponsor more than one team - in fact, at the Marquette November 17 event, more than a third of the teams are attending with another team from the same school. Thanks for understanding.
Please forward your special scheduling requests before the end of the day on Tuesday, November 5 so that we can finalize the judging/match schedule and get it out to you as soon as possible.
Some final reminders:
Begin gathering your team's Consent and Release forms and keep them in one place so that you can hand them in all together
Begin preparing your team's Team Information Sheet and make four copies to bring to the event
Gather emergency contact information for the families of each of your team members
Remind your team members to complete the young adult mentor or adult coach award nominations and put them in a safe place where they won't forget them. (Maybe seal them in an envelope and give them to the coach!)
Share the concession menu with your team members and remind them to bring money or a lunch/snacks
Create a packing list for the event. At a minimum, you will want to bring:
Robot/attachments/charger/spare parts
Laptop with programs and/or printouts of the team's programs for the technical judges
Project presentation props/scripts
Displays your team has created
A way for the team to transport your robot/attachments from the pit area to the competition stage (Sorry, we cannot accommodate wheeled carts). We will have small tables next to the competition tables for robots/attachments/etc.
A laundry basket or tub to store jackets under your pit table
(Optional) items to trade with other teams (buttons, erasers, small candies, etc)
(Optional) A like-new stuffed animal or board book to donate for the all-tournament service project (Project Night Night)
DO NOT bring your own challenge mat and challenge set. We will not have room for you to set up. We will have practice tables available in the pits.
You do not need to bring a long extension cord to the event. For safety sake, we will provide a number of charging stations for you to use for laptops and robots. You will not be allowed to run a power cord to your pit table.
We are looking forward to seeing all of you at the event. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Thank you!
